In fact, they are seeking vain glory by wanting to be famous, to be popular and to be exalted by people. This temptation is realistic even today and people seek power, privilege & prerogatives. To these type of disciples, Jesus' teaching is very clear: to become GREAT, one has to become SMALL. The child who has been placed by Jesus in their midst, has no malice, is innocent, simple and is dependent on the mother. The child, hence, is taken as a MODEL of discipleship.
